  The History of Goorambath

Goorambath is located in Hooper Road Goorambat and is operated by Lyn and Geoff Bath. The winery and vineyard are ideally elevated providing excellent growing conditions and magnificent views to the South looking towards the Strathbogies, Buller, Sterling, Buffalo and Feathertop.

The initial planting of Shiraz was in 1998 with a further plantings of Tannat, Orange Muscat and Verdelho in 2001. Establishment of the winery commenced in 2000.

In The Vineyard
We have had an excellent winter rains and dams are filling quickly. With the soil moisture now at field capacity, Spring should see an outstanding start to the season and the vines making good growth. Pruning has been completed and we are looking forward to bud burst in mid September. It is always an exciting time to monitor the new season's growth and at this stage we would expect the grape quality to again be of a high standard.

In the Winery
The 2008 Shiraz has now been bottled and will undergo a year of bottle maturation prior to release. Prior to bottling we selected the very best barrels of wine and bottled separately to produce our first 'Reserve Shiraz'. The 2005 Shiraz, released during the Glenrowan Wine Region's June 2008 Wine and Food Festival, is still drinkng well, as is the 2006 Shiraz. The 2006 Late Harvest (predominantly Orange Muscat) has proved popular with all who try it.

In his 2008 Australian Wine Companion, James Halliday rated our 2005 Shiraz at 4.5 glasses out of 5 glasses (90 out of a possible 100 points) and described the wine as 'clear medium-bodied blackberry and black cherry fruit, with a nice touch of spice; fine tannins and integrated oak; fruit-accented style'.

We should be releasing the 2010 Verdelho in mid October 2010. Once again this has proved to be a crisp, refreshing wine full of fruit flavours.

The 2006 Shiraz was recently awarded gold medal, the trophy for best wine in the Shiraz class, and the trophy for best wine in the Dookie Wine Show. We are very proud of this achievement and the wines were presented at a dinner for 200 in Shepparton in late October to showcase the trophy wining wines of the Show.

Unfortunately, Geoff has developed a arthritis-related problem and is slowly losing dexterity in his hands and fingers and so operations such as pruning have become more difficult. Sadly we have had to put the property on the market. When the property sells we will find it difficult to leave such a lovely setting with its magnificent views.

We look forward to catching up with you at the winery some time soon.
Best wishes
Geoff and Lyn
